Based on the teaser earlier in the week, we thought the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo would look a lot like their brand-new Le Mans Hypercar contender, the 499P, but boy were we wrong! Instead, Ferrari’s first Gran Turismo Concept car looks more like a four-wheeled UFO than anything else. Penned by the Ferrari Centro Stile under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo’s design takes inspiration from the marque’s legendary Sports Prototypes from the 1960s and 70s, while you can also see hints of current Ferrari design motifs. Indeed, it does seem to share a light signature with the 499P racer, while the side profile with that large vent is reminiscent of the SP3 Daytona. Perhaps the most obvious reference comes in the form of two NACA ducts on the bonnet, which appear to be a direct homage to the legendary Ferrari F40.
As for its virtual drivetrain, the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo sports the same 120-degree 3-litre turbo V6 architecture adopted on the 296 GTB and 296 GT3 that also powers the new 499P. However, freed from the restrictions of the real world, the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo’s engine is tuned to deliver a massive 1015hp at 9000 rpm, with an additional 321hp available from three electric motors, one on the rear axle and one on each of the front wheels.
That all sounds very exciting indeed, but you’ll have to wait until the 23rd of December to give it a blast in Gran Turismo 7, while a full-scale design study will be unveiled at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello on December 15th. If this represents the future of Ferrari’s design language, then we can’t wait to see the new Prancing Horses that hit the road in the coming years, but let us know what you think!
