Our mission is to inspire and empower a young generation of informed, open-minded, responsible, and active citizens that shape society and drive impact. We set up campaigns based on important issues in Nigeria, and we represent your voice on a larger scale, to businesses, professionals and politicians.

Youth empowerment

We aims to empower young people in Nigeria by providing them with the necessary skills and resources to become active participants in national development. This includes promoting entrepreneurship and job creation, education and training, leadership development, and promoting the rights and welfare of young people.

Good governance

We are committed to promoting good governance in Nigeria by advocating for transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. This includes promoting youth participation in governance, fighting corruption, and ensuring that the needs and interests of young people are taken into account in policy and decision-making.

Community development

We also focuses on community development, by promoting social cohesion, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable development at the grassroots level. This includes promoting civic engagement, environmental sustainability, and social justice, and supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and stability in communities across Nigeria.

Youth Parliament provides a practical and ready avenue for young people's participation in governance and public administration, and also the opportunity for youth to make inputs in decisions that concern them.

Its purpose is to empower young people to be active participants in national and community development, to provide them with leadership skills and opportunities, and to promote their involvement in decision-making processes at all levels of society. The Nigerian Youth Parliament serves as a platform for young people to voice their concerns, ideas, and aspirations, and to engage with policymakers and other stakeholders on issues that affect their lives and the future of Nigeria. Through its various programs and activities, the Nigerian Youth Parliament seeks to build a more vibrant and engaged youth population that can contribute to sustainable development and the growth of Nigeria as a nation.

Yes, the Nigerian Youth Parliament is manage by the Federal Minister of Youth and Sports Development and National Assembly but is not affiliated with any political party. 

  1. Membership is by selection through an open competitive process and reflect the Nigerian Senate which is made up of 109 members, made up of 3 members from each state (i.e. one from each senatorial district and 1 from the Federal Capital Territory. Each state delegation must include at least one female Member.

    2. Visit the official website of the Nigerian Youth Parliament or contact a recognized chapter in your local community.

    Fill out the membership application form on the website or at the chapter office.

    Submit the completed application form along with any required documents, such as a passport photograph or identification.

    Attend an orientation program or training session to learn more about the Nigerian Youth Parliament and its activities.

    Participate in the activities of the parliament and contribute to its development.

The age limit for joining the Nigerian Youth Parliament is 18 to 30 years old.

No, membership of the Nigerian Youth Parliament is free. However, members are expected to participate in the activities of the parliament and contribute to its development.

The format of the partnership with the NYP can differ depending on the potential partner as well as our activities. With some organisations, we partner on long-term projects. Some choose a specific event or theme-based activity to support and/or participate in. NYP will be conducting guest sessions throughout its term where MNYPs will get the chance to interact and learn from policymakers, political leaders, activists, educationists, experts, etc. You can see the resource persons/speakers’ section on the website of the dignitaries who have addressed NYP in the past.

It is not possible for persons other than the members to participate in the online sessions. However, the in-person session will have a visitor’s gallery where guests and visitors will be welcomed so that they can watch the proceedings of the National Assembly-style Nigerian Youth Parliament. It should be noted that the NYP Secretariat will arrange for media coverage and recording in online and in-person sessions.

The Nigerian Youth Parliament is a membership-based project. It is not an employment or internship opportunity for Youth; therefore, there is no salary or stipend to be paid to those who are selected as members of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.
